SPRING 2025

THEO 5440: CHRISTOLOGY
"But who do you say that I am?"
Picture
COURSE IN BRIEF

This course is a biblical, historical, and theological study of classical and contemporary Christologies that draws upon primary readings from a variety of interpretive traditions to encounter the living Jesus of faith. For two-thousand years Christians and non-Christians alike have reflected on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. This exploration of the Christ of the creeds, the Jesus of history, and the Christ of the popular imagination will help us better interpret this most central of Christian doctrines for our day and age. Given the impact of liberation theology over the past 50 years, special attention will be given to liberationist approaches to the doctrine of Christ.

FALL 2024
Religion & Science Fiction

Picture
“Religion is but the most ancient and honorable way in which men have striven to make sense out of God’s universe. Scientists seek the lawfulness of events. It is the task of Religion to fit man into this lawfulness.”

–Frank Herbert, Dune (1965)

COURSE IN BRIEF

There is a misguided popular perception that religion and science are incompatible, and that science fiction writers imagine a future without God and religion. Reading popular science fiction refutes this misperception since religion has provided some of science fiction’s very best novels and short stories.

This course uses science fiction to reflect on the role of religion in our society today and in the future.
